OBX Wreck Dives

Roanoke Island Dive Shop

COST:  Call for pricing.  Cost depends on which wrecks you dive.

We are only offering Book the Boat Charters this year due to staffing shortages.  The boat carries a maximum of 6 passenger per trip and is booked by one group of divers.  There is a 6 people maximum.  No dive master will be in the water with you.

The cost includes the boat ride out to the wreck sites and back and does not cover any equipment, tank/weight rental or the cost any gratuity you may wish to provide the boat crew .  Wreck sites outside our normal operating range (ie; U85, Jackson, Advance, Landing Craft) will be assessed an additional fuel surcharge to cover the additional expense of the extra fuel used.  The walk-on cost is based upon diesel fuel prices and there may be additional fuel surcharge if the price of fuel exceeds this current cost.

The diving day normally includes arriving at the dock with a 7:30 departure and two dives, usually at different wreck sites, with a return to the dock between 2 to 4 PM.  The boat does not provide lunch so plan accordingly.  We do have plenty of water and cooler space onboard for your use.

Requirements to Dive.

  • All divers/passengers will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to boarding the vessel.
  • All divers must have a valid ADVANCED certification from a nationally recognized certification agency.
  • We strongly recommend dive insurance with an organization such as DAN.
  • All divers are required to dive with surface signaling devices; SMB, whistle/air horn, etc. A wreck reel is highly recommended.  We have these for purchase at our shop.

Divers and Dive Skills. Mid-Atlantic wreck diving is considered advanced sport diving. When you dive from the boat, it is your responsibility to accurately assess your dive ability.  We do not normally offer the services of a Dive Master nor do we normally accompany divers underwater.  A dive briefing will be conducted that details how divers are expected to prepare for the diving, ingress and egress the water, location of safety/rescue equipment, and any other details necessary for that specific day of diving.  It is the diver’s responsibility to listen to and understand the dive briefing.  It is the responsibility for all divers to monitor their own air/gas supply, times and depth.  If we see any behavior that we consider dangerous to themselves or other divers, we reserve the right to restrict the diver from further diving.

$50 Per Person

OBX beach dives are a great way to gain experience diving in the ocean off the NC coast without the depth of our boat dives.

Each dive is guided by a Divemaster or Instructor. As with every dive, you need to be able to set up your own equipment, know your sizes, and how much weight you need. You will need to have logged a dive within the past year or sign up for a refresher class beforehand.

1.  These may be perfect for you if:You are a newly certified diver with little or no ocean experience.

2.  Rusty Diver who has been diving within the past year.

3.  Are VERY comfortable in the ocean.

4.  Any diver who wants the experience of a beach dive.

5. You are in good physical condition and can walk @50 yards across the beach with your equipment on (50lbs), are flexible enough to put your fins on in the ocean, and can fin out about 125 yards on the surface.

If you show up at the beach and cannot remember how to correctly set up your equipment, you will not be allowed to dive and will not receive a refund of your dive fees. This is for your safety and consideration of others on the dive.  We have a Refresher Class to refresh your dive skills.

All of our beach dives are guided, and all of our guides are experienced, insured, and active NAUI Instructors or Divemasters.

On these dives, we guide you to the wreck site and run a wreck reel for you to follow. You will need to come with a dive buddy or team up with another diver. Junior divers need to have an experienced diver with them. If you need further help or want to hire your own Instructor or Divemaster, that can be arranged for an extra fee.

We  dive in Kill Devil Hills or Nags Head.

Times: changes seasonally but we usually meet at 7:00AM

We are a full-service dive shop and rent all the equipment you need for SCUBA diving.

Rental gear is additional. If you give us your sizes when you book, we will bring a selection of dive gear with us to save you running up and down the beach. Of course, you can always stop by the shop the day before the dive to try on the gear.
